How to make a rope mirror / The easy way

During the month of March, I participated in the $100 Room Challenge hosted by Erin at Lemons, Lavender and Laundry. For this challenge, I chose to makeover our Bathroom.

You can see recap of Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5

Our bathroom already had some great elements, but there were some things that I wanted to do for a while now, like this rope mirror!

Now, it took me a looooong time to figure out how to attach the rope. The reason was that I wanted it to look real clean and not have a bulky knot.

But I couldn’t find the kind of hardware to make it happen. Gladly, I have a lot of imagination and came up with an idea! ?

I dug out of a box an old leather strap that used to belong to a bag (sometimes, I wonder why I keep these things, but now, I was really happy about it!!)

I cut off 2 pieces

And then made two holes on both of them.

Took the smallest screws I could find and made a hole using tape on the drill bit to make sure I didn’t pass through the mirror’s frame (yeah, washi tape, were fancy people!!)

Fold the leather strap and use a washer to screw it to the mirror. Apply glue on the screw.

Then, use clamp to keep it in place till the glue dries

Pass the rope through the leather and glue the 2 pieces of rope together. Use burlap twine to hide the glue and make it look like the twine is holding the rope together.

And there you have it! Not my first intention but way better than a big knot. To my taste anyway! (and a lot cheaper than any hardware I could have bought)

A before and after shot to go with it!

Thank you, because I love mirrors on a rope, but could not afford one. Thanks to your wonderful tutorial, I think I can make one. I have a question. How do you create the frame around the mirror In order to attach the rope? My mirror is plane, with no frame.

I bought the mirror like that at a local hardware store :( It was really cheap. I had thought of making one, found some tutorials on Pinterest but it was waaaay too complicated for me or not exactly what I wanted. So when I saw this mirror, I bought it immediately! Sorry I can't help you more, but thanks for the comment.

This turned out really really well. I have a mirror very close to this one and I replaced the rope with leather because like you I disliked the knotted ends. This looks so much better.
