IKEA hack! How to transform a SMILA STJÄRNA wall lamp into a Super Mario Bros star!

My son loves everything videogame related. So, instead of getting rid of the IKEA wall lamps he had in his bedroom when he was little, I decided to transform them!

Really easy to do! Just buy a can of paint like this one (I found Krylon Color Master, color Sun yellow for about 6$) :

Apply as many coats as necessary to hide the blue (about 3 coats).
Paint eyes with black and white acrylic paint.

And voilà! Simple and cheap! Can you ask for anything better?

Enjoy!

  1. What a great idea! My daughter has the pink flower version and I've just realized I could paint it white so it blends in with the wall a bit better. Thanks for the inspiration!

  2. What a cool idea Natalie! I am always screaming about the power of paint and how almost anything looks better, improved when we paint it. And your pretty star is the perfect example. No need to throw something out that is no longer desired, just paint it. I'm sure your son must be thrilled.

    1. You're right! We should be thinking more about painting something before throwing out! Thanks for your comment!
